Per-network variants and preview

The same post does not have to read the same everywhere. The common text is the base, and each network can have its own.

Variants

  • A variant belongs to a network, not to an account: two accounts on the same network get the same one.
  • A network with no variant publishes the common text.
  • A variant identical to the common text is not kept: it would become a trap the day the common text changes.
  • Every variant is measured with the limit and the counting unit of its own network, shown next to the field.

Images and the first comment stay common to the whole post. They do not change per network. Only the text does.

The preview

The preview shows the text each network will actually publish, the “see more” cut in the right place, what the network does with a web address, whether a link card appears, and how many characters are left, counted the way that network counts them.

Every rule carries its label: official when the network documents it, observed when it does not and we report what the tools on the market find. An approximate cut presented as exact would make you rework an opening line character by character for nothing.

The preview contacts no network and is not pixel-accurate. It is a model of the text, not a screenshot: fonts, spacing and colors in the real feed will differ. When a network documents nothing, the preview says nothing rather than inventing a rule.
